A/L ICT Lesson 06 Practice Tool: Data Communication and Networking
This is a practice tool for Unit 6 of the Sri Lankan GCE Advanced Level ICT syllabus, Grade 12 (Competency 6), on data communication and networking. It covers analog and digital signals, signal properties and impairments such as bandwidth, attenuation and latency, guided and unguided transmission media, Manchester encoding, network topologies (bus, star, ring and mesh), hubs and switches, MAC addressing and frames, IP addressing with subnet masks, CIDR, private addresses, DHCP and NAT, routing across the Internet, the transport protocols TCP and UDP with ports, application protocols such as DNS and HTTP, the OSI seven-layer and TCP/IP four-layer reference models, and network security including firewalls, encryption and common threats. This unit is usually worth 4 to 6 MCQ marks and 10 to 15 marks on Paper II.
Seventeen activities are grouped into six modules: matching drills, flip cards, sorting exercises, true-or-false swipe tasks, step-sequencing for routing and the OSI layers, and timed quizzes. Your score is kept in your browser, so you can close the page and return to it.
