O/L ICT Lesson 2 Practice Tool: Computer Hardware
This is a practice tool for Unit 2 of the Sri Lankan GCE Ordinary Level ICT syllabus, Grade 10 (Competency 2), on computer hardware and the fundamentals of a computer system. It covers the parts of the system unit including the CPU with its ALU, control unit and registers, the motherboard and buses, primary memory such as RAM, ROM and cache and the difference between volatile and non-volatile memory, secondary storage devices including hard disks, solid-state drives, optical discs and flash drives with the storage hierarchy from registers down to hard disks, input and output devices and the ports that connect them, and the units used to measure data from the bit and byte up through kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes and terabytes. This is a core unit that appears in MCQ and short Paper II questions.
Eighteen activities are grouped into six modules: matching drills, flip cards for hardware terms, sorting exercises for volatile and non-volatile memory and for input and output devices, a swipe task, ordering tasks for the storage hierarchy and the data units, and timed quizzes.
