O/L ICT Lesson 11 Practice Tool: System Development
This is a practice tool for the Grade 11 system development unit of the Sri Lankan GCE Ordinary Level ICT syllabus (Competency 11). It covers what a system is and what an information system does, the input, process, output and feedback parts of a system, the difference between a manual and a computer-based system, the difference between data and information and how information supports decision-making, the System Development Life Cycle and its six phases in order (requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment and maintenance), the main deliverable of each phase, feasibility, and the common development models including the phased waterfall model, the iterative and incremental approach, prototyping and the spiral model. This is a core unit that appears in both MCQ and Paper II questions.
Eighteen activities are grouped into six modules: matching drills, flip cards for key terms, sorting exercises for data versus information and for which phase a task belongs to, an ordering task for the SDLC phases, a swipe drill for phased versus iterative models, and timed quizzes.
