O/L ICT Lesson 9 Practice Tool: Databases
This is a practice tool for Unit 9 of the Sri Lankan GCE Ordinary Level ICT syllabus, Grade 10 (Competency 9), on databases. It covers what a database is and how a database management system helps, the advantages of an electronic database over manual files such as no redundancy, accuracy, consistency and security, the structure of a table made of fields and records, common data types such as text, number and date, the different kinds of key including the primary key, foreign key and composite key, the relationships between tables which can be one to one, one to many or many to many, and how queries and reports are used to find and present data, including the SQL SELECT statement, criteria and sorting. This is a core unit that appears in MCQ and short Paper II questions.
Eighteen activities are grouped into six modules: matching drills, flip cards for database terms, sorting exercises for data types, keys, query parts and concepts, an ordering task for linking tables, and timed quizzes. Your score is kept in your browser, so you can close the page and return to it.
