O/L ICT Lesson 12 Practice Tool: Internet and Email
This is a practice tool for the Grade 11 internet and email unit of the Sri Lankan GCE Ordinary Level ICT syllabus (Competency 12). It covers the difference between the internet and the World Wide Web, the web browser, the role of an ISP, a website and a web page, the web address or URL, hyperlinks and search engines, secure browsing with HTTPS, the common internet protocols HTTP and HTTPS for web pages, SMTP for sending email, POP and IMAP for receiving email, FTP for file transfer and DNS for turning a domain name into an IP address, the parts of an email including the To, Cc and Bcc fields and who can see each recipient, the subject and attachments, the main internet services such as e-commerce, e-learning, cloud storage, social media and VoIP, and safe online habits including strong passwords and avoiding phishing. This is a core unit that appears in both MCQ and Paper II questions.
Eighteen activities are grouped into six modules: matching drills, flip cards for key terms, sorting exercises for protocols and safe versus risky habits, an ordering task for opening a web page, a swipe drill for who can see an email recipient, and timed quizzes.
