O/L ICT Lesson 15 Practice Tool: ICT in Society
This is a practice tool for the Grade 11 ICT in society unit of the Sri Lankan GCE Ordinary Level ICT syllabus (Competency 15). It covers how ICT is used across sectors such as health, agriculture, education, business and banking, with examples like telemedicine, e-learning, e-commerce and online banking, the advantages of ICT such as faster work, easy communication and quick access to information as well as the disadvantages such as job losses, health problems and loss of privacy, security and legal issues including hacking, phishing, viruses, copyright and the difference between physical security such as locks and CCTV and logical security such as passwords, antivirus and encryption, health, safety and ergonomics including repetitive strain injury, eye strain and good habits such as taking breaks and sitting correctly, and environmental and social effects including electronic waste, the reduce, reuse and recycle approach and the digital divide. This is a core unit that appears in both MCQ and Paper II questions.
Eighteen activities are grouped into six modules: matching drills, flip cards for key terms, sorting exercises for physical versus logical security, good versus bad habits and concept groups, a swipe drill for advantages versus disadvantages, an ordering task for the three Rs, and timed quizzes.
