A/L ICT Lesson 08 Practice Tool: Database Systems
This is a practice tool for Unit 8 of the Sri Lankan GCE Advanced Level ICT syllabus, Grade 13 (Competency 8), on designing and developing database systems. It covers data versus information, structured and unstructured data, database models (flat file, hierarchical, network and relational), the relational model with its relations, attributes, tuples and relationships, integrity constraints such as primary key, foreign key, NOT NULL, unique and check, the database management system and SQL data-definition and data-manipulation commands, entity relationship diagrams and their notation, candidate, primary, alternate, foreign and composite keys, transforming an ER diagram into a logical relational schema, and normalization from unnormalized form through first, second and third normal form to remove redundancy and anomalies. This unit carries heavy structured-essay marks on Paper II.
Eighteen activities are grouped into six modules: matching drills, flip cards for ER components, sorting exercises for models and SQL commands, step-sequencing for ER-to-schema and normalization, and timed quizzes. Your score is kept in your browser, so you can close the page and return to it.
